Christmas in Shreveport

Here is my Christmas Post for 2006, better late than never.

I took this picture of this building (I liked the giant mural on it) from the freeway as we were heading back to my sister's house from the Horseshoe Casino. I'm surprised this picture came out cause it was taken while going at least 60 mph. Because this was a hit-and-run trip and it pretty much was cold and raining the whole time we were there, we really didn't get to stop and see the sights in Shreveport, so this picture is pretty much it.

This is the Horseshoe Casino. We went there just for my Grandma. This was also my first, and probably my last time I go gambling, I lost $40 of my X-mas money playing Blackjack here.

The Christmas Tree inside the Horseshoe, I thought it was nice so I took a picture of it.

The Tree at my Sister's House. I think its safe to say that my family has now officially stopped wrapping gifts and now use gift bags for everything.

My Sister's "Patriot Tree". My sis and her Husband are both in the Airforce and over the years she has gotten several different "Stars n Stripes" X-mas ornimants from family and friends.

My Sister opening a present as my Dad watches on.

Friend of the Family "Laser" (his nickname cause his real name is a long unpronounceable Russian name no one can say correctly) proudly holding up his Hooters Gift Card, The gift that keeps giving. The dog in the foreground is my one of my Sister's two dogs, Lucy.

My Brother showing off one of his two "Dead Man's Chest" DVDs he got as my Grandma looks on.

QotD: My Favorite Holiday Movie

What's your favorite holiday movie?

I like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (its good for Halloween & X-mas), "Bad Santa" and "The Simpson's Holiday Special" (the first episode), but the one X-mas movie that I really love is "A Christmas Story". That movie is everything that my childhood was.

DAD

I'm sorry for being an asshole today, especially today. I was just tired from being cramped in a car for over 3 hours this morning, I just wanted to be left alone for the rest of the day.

Just Some Holiday Music

Tired of those suck ass "Christmas with Kenny G" songs. Give these Holiday tunes a listen, maybe you'll like them a bit better. "Frosty the Snowman" by Fiona Apple, "Ave Marie" by Chris Cornell, "Oi to the World" by No Doubt, and even though its not a Holiday Song, it sure does sound & feel like one to me, "Bliss" by Muse.

Enjoy.

7 Days of Christmas

To date, I think this will be the longest Christmas celebration I have experienced.

Tuesday my step-brother came to town, then my brother show up the next day from up north to spend time with us. That night we do the first of the X-mas celebrations for my step-bro because he leaves the next day.

Wednesday my step-brother leaves town and my step-sister shows up for a visit, then we do the X-mas day thing with her Thursday night.

My step-sister left today and then we (Grandma, Mom, Step-Dad, Bro, the two dogs, and Myself) all leave for Shreveport, LA tomorrow to do X-mas with my sister and her husband. I've never been there, so I'm kinda looking forward to that trip.

Then we come back Monday and my bro and I go to my Dads house and do the X-mas thing there with him and my step mom.

Pedro, If That Is Your Real Name

Of the many "Christmas Retail" stories I have to tell, this particular episode stands out the most because things were said that were meant to insult me, but instead I thought it was one of the funniest moments of my former retail career.

It took place many moons ago around the holiday shopping season when I used to work for an area Toy Store and starts when one of the seasonal coworkers came up to me and said there was a problem with a customer who was buying a power ranger toy and was disputing the price of the toy. So she takes me to the Power Ranger section where the customer (who is a little old grandma) was and tells me that the toy she got was ringing up $24.99 at the register and on the shelf where she got it was marked $9.99 and pointed to the spot where she picked it up.

After looking at the toy and the spot where she got it, I explained to her that the price was in fact $24.99, and that it was a very busy day, kids were picking up the toys and move them around. As I was telling this to her, I slid the price tags and toys to their correct spots. Then she proceeds to look at me and then my name tag and in that "I'm better than you" tone of voice says "Well Pedro, if that is your real name, I don't think you are correct".

I think she said some other things that implied that I was lying and trying to rip her off, but at that point I kinda spaced out. I guess because it was coming from a little old lady that I thought it was funny. All I did was crack smile and hold back my laughter. I told her "Sorry, I'll get a manager and you can explain it to him".

So we get the manager and let him deal with her. At this point I'm not around when he talked to her, but when we meet up to talk about it later on that day, He tells me that she said, "That damn Pedro, he moved all the tags so I can't show you what the price was". And because of that, she did not end up getting the toy for a lower price.

And so that tale spread around the store to all of my coworkers and from that point on I was constantly teased with "That Damn Pedro" and "If that is your real name" .

Vox Hunt: This Gets Me Every Time

Show us a video that cracks you up.

I can't help but laugh out loud every time I see my favorite little gal Natalie Portman doing Gangsta Rap. This was originally done on SNL and now available on the "V for Vendetta" 2 disk DVD as an easter egg. Enjoy
