QotD: It’s All Relative

Which relative – dead or alive – do you wish you knew better?

My Paternal Grandparents… both whom passed on years ago. I really would have liked to know them better.  I knew them, but I didn't really know them if that makes any sense to you. I mean, we loved and cared about each other, but they both spoke only Spanish and I only spoke English so communication with them never got very far.

Texas Vs Boston!

Over the weekend my Uncle was in town so we so my family decided to meet up on Sunday Afternoon at the Ballpark in Arlington to watch the Texas Rangers take on the Boston Redsocks. All around it was a good day. Great game, good weather, and Texas won the game 4-3.

And after the game I had a look at my new home away from home, Cowboys Stadium which is right next to the Ball Park. I didn't realize it until I was this close but this stadium is Huge!

The Roadrunner is Back!

It's drivable and fine for those afternoon drives on the Weekends. But like all project cars (especially the older ones) there are still a few more accouterments to be had. For now we took it back to my Father's property out in the country until we can find a more secure location to keep it, i.e. clean out the garage.

My New HD

Well we’re movin on up… to HD!

So I got a text from my brother last night asking if "Would you buy an Pioneer Elite Kuro 50in for 2K?" "Yeah" I replied back, It's one of the highest rated Plasmas and usually retails for up to 5K. I asked him why and he mentioned that it was on sale and he was considering buying one but he had to sleep on it. Well this afternoon he texts me and says he decided to get the TV and he needs me to come to Dallas with the Aztec and meet him later on this evening at StarPower to pick up the TV. Well heck, I thought about it too. It's a nice TV to have, especially for 2k. So I asked him about the financial details.. and well for $170 and some monthly payments I can get one to. So I am.

So everyone can expect me to be fiddling and watching TV for most of the weekend.

QotD: My Very First Movie

What is the first movie you saw in the the theater?

Obviously my early childhood memories are very blurry so my actually first "theatrical experience" is a complete and total mystery. That being said. I do know that I saw "Star Wars" in the theater. Not when it originally came out, but a few years afterward. Well I don't actually remember seeing it, but I know I did because I definitely have (or had) impressions of seeing it in the theater. When I was around 3 years old, I can remember that I clearly recognized the silhouettes of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in a Newspaper advert for "The Empire Strikes Back". And I know I said something to my parents like "Luke Skywalker, Lets go see Star Wars". So I obviously knew what it was, and it has to be because my parents took me to see "Star Wars" in the Theater when I was a toddler.

Resident Evil 0 Completed – Rank D

So, in my quest to go though the entire RE series to get to RE5 and a new XBOX 360, I have recently finished RE0. However I finished with a Rank of D. For now it's not a big deal to me. Sure I might have died a few more times then I'd like to admit, but when it comes to video games, especially Survival Horror, I like to take my time playing them. Hence the 10hr playtime and low rank. Perhaps another time I'll speed through this game, but for now.. I'm moving on to Resident Evil 1, where I must …Enter the Survival Horror.

Kids Need to Read Program

The need for the Kids Need to Read program cannot be overemphasized. The statistics correlating illiteracy to crime and juvenile delinquency are overwhelming. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, eighty-five percent of all juveniles who interface with the juvenile court system are functionally illiterate. More than sixty percent of all prison inmates are functionally illiterate. The Department of Justice states, "The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence, and crime is welded to reading failure." Many of our societal woes are statistically linked to low literacy levels:

  • One child in four grows up not knowing how to read.
  • Forty-three percent of adults at Level 1 literacy skills live in poverty compared to only four percent of those at Level 5.
  • Three out of four food stamp recipients perform in the lowest two literacy levels.
  • Ninety percent of welfare recipients are high school dropouts.
  • Sixteen to nineteen year old girls at the poverty level and below, with below average skills, are six times more likely to have out-of-wedlock children than their reading counterparts.

If we are to improve our society and the strength of our country, we must make strong readers out of each and every child that resides within it. The light of literacy is the hope of the world and the path to success for its children.

And now, here is a very special message from co-founder Nathan Fillion.
