!Feliz Cinco de Mayo! – Girl In a Coma

Thank god for the internet! Really! Otherwise I don't think I would ever discover, listen, and buy new music. Case in point – Girl In a Coma. A Trio of Texican ladies, sisters Nina (vocals/guitar) and Phanie Diaz (drums) and Jenn Alva (bass) based out of San Antonio (just a few hours South of here) who play Punk/Rock. Funny thing (for me at least) is that they have been around for several years now, but up until last month, I had never heard of them.

I just happen to be browsing the Amoeba Music Store website checking out their in-store live shows (if your really into Indie music, check out their In-Store Live Show page) when I happen to come across this bands performance page.

I'll admit it, at first I wasn't all that impressed with them. Nina has a rather unique voice and singing style. Half the time I can't understand her words when she sings. But the music was good and catchy, and they do put on a real good live show. So after multiple listens, their music finally grew on me.

But it wasn't until I learned more about them that they really gained my admiration and respect. They are indeed "for real". They are not another LA manufactured band who sing about shallow and material things. They don't put on a fake, and again manufactured persona. They really are who they are and fully embrace their Mexican heritage. But when I found out that they were from Texas, that really sealed the deal for me.

Long story short, I dig 'em. So I ended up buying their CD a few weeks ago. Overall pretty good. I do enjoy it. So what better day than today – Cinco de Mayo – to share a new favorite Mexican American Punk/Rock band.

Listen, Enjoy and Rock On!!

!Feliz Cinco de Mayo! – Mexican Americans

Hey there! I Seeing on how today is "Our" day, I thought I would share this song (some would call it a protest song) about my Mexican American Culture. And even though this song is two decades old, the lyrics are just as true today as they were way back then, especially about waking up early. Enjoy. And feel free to sing along.

Just Another Monday.

10 hour shifts, got to love em. And now that most of the Mother's Day merch is already done, the work flow has gone back to a more laid back pace, which is quite nice. The rumor mill has the Palm Pre being released on June 7th.  I hope this is true because I'm really tired waiting and wondering on when this phone is coming out. I also went back to the Gym today after a 5 day layoff. I just put in some running time on the elliptical. Had my weekly weigh in. For the second week in a row, I'm 200lbs. Now its time to put on the latest episode of "Castle" and call it a night.

Oh yeah, Star Trek is just 4 days away!!!

Dallas Cowboys staffer is left paralyzed after facility collapse.

By JASON TRAHAN / The Dallas Morning News
jtrahan@dallasnews.com

IRVING – A 33-year-old Dallas Cowboys staff member was left paralyzed and two other team staffers remain hospitalized after Saturday's practice facility collapse, which is now the subject of a federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigation, authorities said.

Scouting assistant Rich Behm suffered a spine fracture that caused permanent paralysis from the waist down, the team confirmed Sunday. He underwent surgery to stabilize the fracture Saturday night and remains in stable condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Team owner Jerry Jones grimly surveyed the debris on Sunday morning. He lauded Irving police and emergency services for their actions the previous day.

"We are also grateful to those Cowboys players and staff members who acted so quickly and heroically in the face of personal danger to help those around them who were in need of immediate assistance," he said in a statement.

Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis will undergo surgery at Parkland Hospital today to stabilize a broken vertebra. He was not paralyzed. Assistant athletic trainer Greg Gaither is expected to remain at Baylor University Medical Center for the next few days while his broken right leg heals.

The other nine people who received medical treatment were released by Sunday.

Vox Hunt: Morning Music

Share a song that you like to wake up to.

There are no better voices to wake up to than the soothing sounds of Sheryl Crow or Alison & Catherine Pierce aka "The Pierces". They bring me my morning of bliss before I have to get up and face the reality of life.

"After all, I won't let go 'Till your safe and sound."

A Nice and Boring Weekend.

What a wonderful lazy weekend I had. No work on Saturday. No Soccer game on Sunday. No Gym Visits. I didn't even go the the "Texas Nightmare Weekend".  I decided to just sit back and trying to relax. And also get as much sleep time as I could. Not much else to say, I saw "Wolverine" Friday night at the Harkins Theater in Southlake. It was entertaining and is worth seeing if you are a fan of the "X" franchise. Other than that I just did my laundry, grocery shopping and re-watched "King Kong"(original) and "Star Trek 2". This break is just what I needed as I was starting to really feel like crap.

Speaking of "Crap", those Dallas Mavs sure did go down like a $10 hooker in the 4th quarter to the Denver Nuggets. After being manhandled like that I trust that they can grow some balls and rally a win on Tuesday after a loss like that. However we haven't beat Denver once this season so this playoff series looks to be an uphill battle for Dallas. And the Dallas Cowboys Training Bubble (Tent) collapsed Saturday during the heavy wind and rain that was over D/FW at the time. A few people were hurt but thankfully no one was killed.
