KITTIE Parts Ways With Bassist TRISH DOAN!!!

What a bummer, I just found out about this sad news from one of my favorite metal bands. KITTIE has announced the departure of bassist Trish Doan.

Story from blabbermouth.net.
Doan
has been diagnosed with the eating disorder anorexia-athletica-nervosa, which she developed during the recording of KITTIE's "Funeral For Yesterday", Doan's first release with the group.

"It breaks my heart to say goodbye to this family that has given me the best two years of my life," Doan said. "I wish my time with KITTIE did not have to end, but this decision was made based on doctors' orders. Unfortunately, this is the only option that will allow for my full recovery."

Doan has been battling the disease for nearly two years.

"Trish is a part of our family and her talents and friendship will be missed by all of us," said Tara McLeod and sisters Mercedes and Morgan Lander. "We are continuing to be respectful and supportive of Trish's needs during her period of healing. We wish her the best on her road to recovery and will remain close to her throughout this difficult time."

I was fortunate to have met her briefly when Kittie played here last year. She seemed like a very nice person and I really hope she can beat this awful disease.

My Young Apprentice

This video of a very young "Star Wars" fan has inspired me to make sure that my early influence on my little baby niece Russia is to get her geeked up at a very young age. If this is her in a few years, then I would consider my short term goal a success.

QotD: Daylight Saving Time

Love it or hate it, many of you lost an hour of sleep last night due to Daylight Saving Time? Worth It? Do you like it more/less now that Daylight Saving Time occurs earlier (and later) in the year?

I'm the type of person who can't get enough sleep as it is. So unless a female(s) are climbing on top of me, there is nothing worth losing an hour of sleep over.

Destroyed

I'd like to tell you that my vehicle was destroyed in an all out balls to the walls Drag Race or on a High Speed chase with the cops. However it's demise was an unfortunate incident of a "Hit and Run" by some neighborhood kids. My car was parked out front in the street as usual when a SUV hit it around 3:AM. It hit my car so hard that it pretty much ruined the entire left side of my car, I can't get the door to open, my left rear tire is completely destroyed. And finally it pushed my car into the rear of my neighbors vehicle, their car received minor damage. I only heard the crash, which is what woke me up, followed by my Car Alarm ringing. When I looked out of my window I saw the SUV leave the scene in reverse. And then it went all the way home (which is just 5 houses down) with a destroyed front right tire, causing sparks to fly out scaring up the road, leaving a trail behind. My neighbors actually saw the wreck and who did it, so it's just a matter of time before the culprits are caught.

So that's it. The only real "thing" that I owned that was of value to me is now gone.

Vox Hunt: Don’t Toy with Me

Show us your favorite childhood toy.

I think I had just about every type of action figure back in the day. GI Joe, He-Man, Transformers, Star Wars, and so on. But my favorite above them all was Voltron: Defender of the Universe.

Like all of my original childhood toys, it was lost. However, in 98 I was given (by my girlfriend at the time) the "Re-Issue" toy back for Christmas, which is now safely stored in the box inside my closet along with my other toy Robots.

QotD: Today is the Greatest…

What's the best thing about today?

The best thing about today is that my head was not on the chopping block (this time?). We had a department meeting this morning where it was announced to us (by a prepared statement) that Zales would be laying off  some employees and closing store. And while the boss is reading the statement, I'm thinking, "Dammit, I just started in January and I'm already outta here." But to my relief, he said that there would be no layoffs in our department. So for now, myself and fellow co-workers are still be employed. All things considered, it was a good day.

The layoff made the news so I'm posting part of it here:

Zale Corp. to cut 225 positions, close 105 stores this year

02/27/2008

By DAVID KOENIG  / Associated Press

Jewelry retailer Zale Corp., which has searched in vain for a winning formula even in better economic times, announced Wednesday that it would close more stores and cut 20 percent of its headquarters staff to save more than $65 million a year.

The company said it would close another 23 stores, bringing to 105 the number it expects to shutter by the end of July. That would leave about 2,145 stores and kiosks under several brands including Zales Jewelers and Piercing Pagoda.

Zale added that it would lay off 140 people and eliminate 85 unfilled positions at its headquarters in suburban Dallas. Most of the $4 million in severance-related and other costs will be recorded in the company's fiscal third quarter, which ends April 30.

Vox Hunt: Simple Pleasures

Show us a simple pleasure you've enjoyed recently.

Right now I'm currently enjoying some Japanese candy called "Pocky", courtesy of Anime Pop right here in the North Dallas area. They basically taste like a Twix candy bar without the caramel. However they are just a bunch of thin sticks that  you almost can't help but eat a whole bunch at a time.

On the other end of the taste spectrum is "Black Boss" Drink and "Black Black" Caffeinated Chewing Gum. Now I got them because I thought the packaging was cool, but unfortunately they both tasted very horrendous. The "Black Boss" tastes like cold coffee (I hate coffee) and the "Black Black" gum tastes like your chewing on a cough drop or Nyquil.
