QotD: Should’ve Seen Them Live

Which band or artist which is no longer performing or alive would you have loved to have seen?
Submitted by Rev Stan.

I suppose I wouldn't mind going back in time and seeing Mozart or Beethoven back in their heyday. But the artists of the modern times that I would have like to have seen would have been Jimi Hendrix or The Doors. The band that I never got to see while they were around was Alice in Chains. And I need to get around to seeing both Metallica and Queens of the Stone Age while they are still performing as I have yet to see them live.

Dirk Nowitzki is the MVP

A nice conclusion to great regular season (the playoffs didn't happen), Dirk Nowitzki was officially awarded the MVP trophy by NBA Commissioner David Stern in Dallas yesterday. Dirk is the first European (he is from Germany) and Dallas Maverick to win the award. In his ninth season, Dirk lead the Mavericks to the franchise's best regular season record of 67-13. Nowitzki averaged 24.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and a career-high 3.4 assists. The 7-footer was the only NBA player to shoot at least 50 percent from the field (.502), 40 percent from the arc (.416) and 90 percent from the line (.904)

Dr. Pepper, Texas

Since we had to go and drive to get my stepbrother from Abilene, my mother

wanted to make a side trip to Dublin, TX just to pick up a whole lot of Dublin Dr. Pepper just for my brother because he's a Dr. Pepper nut and its' (supposedly) cheaper to buy there. I'll admit, I'm not the biggest Dr. Pepper fan, but even I think the original formula ( made with Imperial Pure Cane Sugar) tastes better than the current one (made with artificial sweeteners), so I can see why she does this all the time for him (She has yet to get me chocolate from Hershey, PA).

Since it was my first visit down there, we stopped by the Dr. Pepper Bottling Factory/Museum. If you happen to be a big fan of this drink, this place is your shrine. They had all kinds of unique things there like Dr. Pepper Beef Jerky. We took the tour, saw the factory and the historical memorabilia, and even got a free Dr. Pepper. After that we just went looking around the quaint little town before heading out. Needless to say I took a bunch of pictures of that day but I just put a few of them in this post. If you care to see the rest of the photographs, you can do so by clicking here.

28 Weeks Later – Movie Review

Recommended

28 Weeks Later is an excellent follow up to Danny Boyle's 28 Day's Later.  Many fans (including myself) of the first film were skeptical of the sequel due to the fact that none of the original cast returned for this film, nor did  Boyle return to direct (instead he served as an Executive Producer). Fortunately having a new story, and new cast and a new director in Juan Carlos Fresnadilo for the next chapter did pay off and did not turn out to be just another thrown together sequel for money (Ahem… Hill's Have Eyes II).

(Minor Spoilers)
28 Weeks Later kicks off during the time frame of the first movie and introduces the new characters of the film Don (Robert Carlyle) and Alice (Catherine McCormack) who are hiding from the infected with a few other survivors in a countryside house. Eventually there hideaway becomes attacked by the zombies and only Don survives the attack. Thats when the movie fasts forwards to 28 weeks later and the main plot kicks in. The U.S. Army has come in and taken over G.B. in an attempt to rebuild and reconstruct the island. They have set up a Safe Zone within the city of London and are now bringing back the refugees that fled the Britain from the first outbreak. This is where Don has ended up and is now having his two children Tammy (Imogen Poots) and Andy (Mackintosh Muggleton) returned to him because they happened to be out of the country at the time of the original outbreak.

After they have been reunited, the two children sneak out of the Safe Zone and go to their old home to gather some personal belongings. There they find their mother is still alive and has been hiding in their house. When she is brought back to the Military Instillation, the doctors discover that in fact she is infected with the virus but has no symptoms and that she may be the key to a cure to the Rage Virus. But before that could happen, the virus does get loose and the chaos begins again. With Alice no longer able to provide a potential cure due to the new outbreak, It's no up to the Medial Officer Major Ross (Rose Byrne) and Army Sniper Doyle (Jeremy Renner) to get her children safely out of the country because they now maybe the only two people that can provide a possible cure. But this proves to be a difficult task because not only are they on the run from the infected, they are also trying to elude the Army who has now been order to kill every one on sight.

Needless to say, fans of the original film as well as horror lovers should eat this one up. 28 Weeks Later is a bit more Scarier, more Violent, and a whole lot Bloodier than the first movie (wait till you see the helicopter scene). Do check this film out.

QotD: Rebel Without A Cause

What was your version of teenage rebellion?
Brought to you by the movie Georgia Rule.

Now that I look back on things, I can't really recall anything rebellious about my teenage years. Yeah I pulled a few boners (what kid hasn't), but nothing I would call exciting. You could call me a good kid or a lame kid. Take your pick.

MVP?

The rumors are all over the place, it appears that our Dirk Nowitzki will be named the new NBA MVP. If this turns out to be true, I think this award will have a bittersweet taste. Yes we had a great regular season but we failed to carry that success in the post season for on of the greatest collapses of all time.

QotD: House Rules

What were the main household rules when you were growing up?  What are the rules in your own house now?
Brought to you by the movie Georgia Rule

When I was a kid there was only one rule, the simplest one of them all: if you misbehave, you get a spanking. Most likely this will be my rule as well when I run things.

Speaking of which, the main rule maker of my childhood has a birthday today. Happy Birthday Dad!
