What are you going to do with your tax return?
Submitted by KB.

This year I get no refund. I just got back from mailing a personal check to the I.R.S. for the amount of $69.  Even my taxes are kinky.

Rodrigo Y Gabriela – Diablo Rojo & Orion

Its always fun when you discover new music. My latest discovery of Rodrigo Y Gabriela came last Friday night when this duo were performing live on the Jimmy Kimmel show. While I'm not the biggest fan of Latin Music, I do love the sounds of Flamenco and Spanish/Folk Guitar, and these two cats play it with fire. After seeing them jam to their song "Diablo Rojo" on Jimmy's show, I became an instant fan of, so naturally I had to find out more about them. My research on Rodrigo Y Gabriela lead me to discover that they are originally from Mexico but have relocated to Ireland and have a large fan base in Europe. But what really surprised me was that they are big Metal fans. So much so that not only did they included a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" on their self titled album, but they also did a killer cover of Metallica's"Orion". Have a listen and Enjoy!

QotD: Also Known As

What's in a screen/user name? Tell us how you found yours.
Submitted by Bill.

I'm a bit of a Batman fan, so  and using that word as a user name is a bit plain to me, so I went with his imp villain/nuisance: The Batmite. How I found it? I don't remember exactly, I'm sure it came across the character from reading a lot of Batman comics.

Crazy Texas Weather

When I took the dogs for a walk this evening, I could see the dark storm clouds coming from the west. I had some lucky timing today (Friday 13th) because it wasn't even 1 minute after I had made it home from walking the dogs that it began to Hail. On average they were golf ball size, they probably wouldn't have hurt me (I'm unbreakable), but they would have most likely hurt the dogs had we'd still been out. In the mad dash to get my car covered I failed to capture the storm with my camera, fortunately it only lasted about 5 minutes in my neck of the woods. It was in the east that had it the worst, they had a Tornado hit. And about 30 minutes after that, the sun was shining like it never happened.

While I was in the back looking around, Gizmo tagged along.

2 for 3

It was a good night for the local sports teams.

The Great: The Stars shut out Vancouver 2-0 and tie the Western Conference Quarterfinal series 1-1. Dallas Goaltender Marty Turco had 35 saves to go along with his first shutout playoff win.

The Good: The Rangers beat Seattle 5-2 bringing the Rangers record to  5-5 in this young MLB season.

The Boring: The Mavs lose to Utah 104-89. The Mavericks have the top spot in the NBA locked up, so with nothing to play for and 3 of our starters not playing, it's no surprise the Mavs lost in a fairly dull game tonight. The Playoffs can't get here fast enough.

Disturbia – Movie Review

Recommended

So I took my mother to the screening of Disturbia this past Tuesday (this is a late post) because she has been wanting to see it. She also happens to be a peeping tom, though she claims it's birdwatching. For the usual pre-show entertainment they were doing a contest for some NASCAR prizes. As it happens my Mom was selected to participate in on the rounds. The contest: Make something creative out of a bunch of Twinkies. At the time that contest seemed a bit odd, but believe it or not, but Twinkie building was relevant to Disturbia.

Long story short, My mother took the time to build a puppy with a bone. The dude that she was up against built Texas Motor Speedway. Now that sounds impressive, but in fact it literally was just a long oval and two Twinkies for race cars. Personally I thought that was lame. The winner of the contest was determined by audience applause. My Mother lost. However we walked out with a box of Twinkies, but so did just about everyone.

(Minor Spoilers)
Now back to the movie. Disturbia is pretty much a modern remake of the Hitchcock's Rear Window and to a lesser extent Burbs. Kale Brecht (Shia LaBeouf), who has been placed on house arrest for the duration of Summer for punching his teacher. As it turns out,his punishment it doesn't seem that bad, that is until his Mom (Carrie-Anne Moss) cuts off his Xbox Live & Itunes accounts, then finally cutting the power cord on his television. With is newfound boredom, he invites his friend Ronnie (Aaron Yoo) over to show him the ultimate reality show, his neighborhood. Together they star watching his neighbors, including Ashely (Sarah Roemer) who is the new girl that has just moved next door. When the local news reports that girls have started to disappear, Kale begins to suspect his other neighbor Mr. Turner (David Morse). Together with Ashley and Ronnie, Kale sets out to prove that Turner is the wanted Killer.

Going into the film, I had no expectations for Disturbia. Having said that, in the end I enjoyed the movie (so did my Mother). The three leads (LaBeouf,Yoo, & Roemer) not only had great chemistry together, but they delivered solid performances. I wouldn't say it's as good as a Hitchcock film (Disturbia had it's share of plot/logic holes), but it does deliver on the Scares & Thrills and has a good mix of Laughs. It's worth the price of a Matinee showing.

  • Won't they let this girl rest in peace. The Anna Nicole biopic is set to begin next week, staring Willa Ford as the now deceased Playmate. The movie will cover her life from age 17 and everything in between up to her death at 39. Personally I think its too soon for a movie about Ms. Smith, not to mention that Willa looks nothing like Anna.

  • It has been reported that Brendan Fraser will return for The Mummy 3. Unfortunately Rachel Weisz will not. The next Mummy feature is expected to be released in the summer of 2008. The film will be directed by Rob Cohen and will have Jet Li as the new Mummy.

Producers Dino and Martha De Laurentiis has secured the rights for a new film and have gotten Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Casino Royale) to write the script.
