Slow Monday

Not much to say tonight.

The Wachowski's "Speed Racer" has been moved up 2 weeks to May 9, 2008 to avoid going head to head with "Indy 4".

Jeff Bridges revealed that he will be playing Obadiah Stane in the Upcoming "Iron Man" movie

Robert Rodriguez's says that he's already planning a straight-to-DVD "Machete", one of the fake trailers that play between the two Grindhouse films.

And finally, here are some interesting posters from Showest.

300 – Movie Review

Recommended

Another Glorious comic book comes to life. “300” is a highly stylized film adaptation by Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) of the graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. The story is loosely based on the “Battle of Thermopylae” where King Leonidas leads 300 Spartans to defend against the invincible army of Persian invaders.

(minor spoilers)
The film is told as a flash back from Dilios (David Wenham). He starts the tale with the birth of Leonidas and how during his entire childhood, he is trained in the art of battle. Fast Forward 30 years later and now Leonidas (Gerard Butler) is King of Sparta. Emissaries of the soon arrive and demand that the Spartans “Submit to the will of the Persian King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) or his massive armies will enslave his people. Feeling insulted, Leonidas quickly disposes of the Emissaries and prepares for war, but not before consulting with the mutant elders called Ephors. When the Ephors forbid Leondia from going to war, the King decides to take 300 of his men to the Hot Gates of Thermopylae and make a defensive stand against the Persians.

From this point on the rest of the movie is the 3 day battle between the Spartans and the various Armies of the . While the entire film is gorgeous to look at, I felt a bit mixed during the battle scenes. Yes I liked them a lot, there was plenty of action, all well choreographed, and buckets of blood & severed limbs. The only minor problem I had with them was that most the action was in slow motion, which I guess was done to capture the iconic poses of Millers book. Another thing I noticed was that all of the “Mutants” look alike, and by that I mean they all look like the Yellow Bastard from "Sin City". To give us a break from the battle, there is a sub-plot of Kings wife Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey), trying to convince her government to send the entire Spartan army to join her husband.

From what I have read on the net, the movie is very faithful to the comic, but I haven't read the book so I can't comment on that aspect of the film. I also have heard that those who look for it will find parallels to the current Iraq Conflict going on. But to that I say in this film you could find similarities to just about any other war in history. But in any case I say just go to the theater, un-check yourself from reality for 2 hours and enjoy the damn ride of this very entertaining movie. If you do get a chance, try to see this one in an Imax theater for total awesomeness.

Vox Hunt: I Miss This Show

Video: Show us a clip of a TV show you miss.

"Brisco County Jr.", I loved this show when it first aired back in 93. It was one of those great shows that only lasted one season. I got the DVD set for X-mas and I just watched the first episode last night. Just about anything with Bruce Campbell is Gold.

The Fun Machine Took A Shit And Died.

Technology is great when it works, but when it doesn't it really drives me fuck'n crazy. For starters my mouse is acting crazy, and thats cause I keep dropping it, my desk is at an angle so if I don't secure the mouse on the ledge or at the top of my keyboard, it falls right to the floor. After all of those drops I figure something has been knocked loose. But the real headache for me has been the net, or lack there of. For the past week or so my wireless connection has been anything but reliable. I would sit there for hours on end staring at the screen waiting for the page to load. And then when the page doesn't fully load I'll hit refresh and do the whole damn thing all over, wasting more of my life. Shit like that make me want to throw my computer out the window. In the end I reset all of the modems and that has seemed to have worked, so far…

And in more good news, last night my T.V. went and died on me. When I turned on the power, the picture never came on the screen, it just turned dark green. I turned it off and on a few times and nothing, its gone. I've had that set since 99 with no problems until now. It's not that much of a big deal to me, I don't really watch a lot of t.v., I use it mostly for games and DVDs. For now it's been replaced by a slightly smaller & crappier set. I suppose the positive in this sad little story is now I have a legit excuse to get a new T.V. And you know what that means baby, HD is coming!

This song has nothing to do with this post, its just a cool little QOTSA number that I happen to like.

16 In A Row, You Can’t Stop Dallas!

MFFL!!!

What else can I say, the Mavs just keep on winning. Last night Dallas beat New Jersey 102-89. With that victory the Mavs are still on top of the NBA with a record of 51-9, 16 wins in a row, and a 23 home winning streak. MVP Dirk Nowitzki had 22 points and 11 rebounds & Jet Terry had 24 Points and a kiss for an elderly woman that he landed on when dove in the crowd going for the ball.

Kittie – Live @ The Ridglea Theater In Fort Worth

Last night my friend and I went down to the Ridglea Theater here in Fort Worth to see my favorite metal band of all time Kittie. This show will be the third time I've gotten to see them live.

Before the show we got to meet the band. I've met Morgan and Mercedes before, but this was the first time I got to met the two newest additions to the band Trish and Tara. They are all a bunch sweethearts I'd like to marry all of them.

The entire show rocked, Kittie kicked major ass and the rest of the bands were good, especially In This Moment and Walls of Jericho . At one point when "Jericho" was on stage playing their set, their singer Candace came to my side of the stage and gave me a "Thumbs Up" when she saw my shirt. After the show I got to meet her and like everyone else, she was so very nice. We had a brief conversation and again she told me she loved my shirt (she found it even more humorous when she found out that Pedro is in fact my name) so I got her to sign it, but I didn't think to get my picture with her which I regret after the fact.

You wouldn't know it from Maria's great stage presence, but when I met her briefly after the show she seemed very shy. That or she thought that we were a bunch of nut cases.

One of the reasons I didn't get to take to many pictures is I got a lot of video. I thought I got some good footage (I was right in front when Kittie was playing) but because the music was loud as fuck, the sound sucks really bad.

Because the sound sucks so much on the above clips, I put the music they played (except for "The Change", I just really like that song) from the videos here in case anyone not familiar with Kittie was curious to know what they sounded like. Enjoy.
