Should we just be handing over the car keys when kids turn 16? Why or why not?

I'm pretty sure I have made my feelings quite clear on this matter as I have ranted about it several times on this blog. If you must insist on having young inexperienced drivers on the roads, then maybe they should be restricted to driving Smart Cars or some other type of compact cars.
