So this past Sunday I had planed on attending the "Serenity" charity screening over in Dallas. However, I waited till the very last minute to buy the tickets (because my friend I was going with sometimes isn't very reliable) and when I went online to purchase them, the event had sold out. So instead of totally canceling our plans for the day I figured why not go to the "Full Moon Roadshow" that was going on that night. For those not familur with that company, they make cheap B-Movie Horror and (in some cases) Erotic Cinema. I'm a fan of the Horror Genre and I loved the "Puppet Master" movies they made when I was a kid.
So I drove us down to the Lakewood Theater in Dallas where the event was taking place. This was the first time ever that I have been to that particular theater. It's an old classic style theater, kind of like the Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth, but 100 times nicer. Anyways when we got there we really didn't know what to expect. I figured it was going to be a showing of a few "Full Moon" movies and a Q.n.A. session with Charles Band, the head of Full Moon Entertainment.
Well it wasn't anything like that at all. It ended up being the best damn mini con I have ever been to. The doors opened at 7:00pm and in Lobby was a table that had a mid sized coffin and a bunch of cards with "words" on one side and on the back was spaces for your name and email. These would be used for a contest/stage show later on that night. After you walked into the theater hall, the Full Moon booths were set up. Just about everything that Full Moon sells was there. From Individual DVDs, Box Set DVDs, Toys, T-Shirts, right down to the Prop Replica Puppets from Puppet Master. And the big kicker was that everything was 50% off, except (yes there was a catch) for the prop replicas. Those would be auctioned off during show.
So once we made our way in the theater we took seats in around the center of the theater and if I ever go to one of these shows again, I will be front and center! The stage was kind of cool. On one side was the prop "King Bong" (as I later found out) and the other was a cage. And it was back lit with a big Full Moon logo. So we sat in our seats for about hour, the actual show did not start until 8pm. During the wait a cutie decided she wanted to sit next to my buddy, that person turned out to be the special guest for the nigh Robin Sydney.
So the show finally starts and Charles Band introduces himself and thanks us for coming out. Next he goes on to tell a 15 minute story about how horrible his experience is on letting other people cast "hot girls" for his movies. Long story short, he vows never to let others cast women for him again. However, he needs to get "Hot Girls" to be on this Roadshow to be "Poontang Tribe Girls" (from the movie "King Bong" ) in order to show the audiences across the country some Babes and Boobs. He doesn't want to get LA girls because he claims that it would be "to expensive" to drag them along the tour with him. So he lets a friend cast local girls in each city to be the Tribe Girls. And to his suprise and delight, he said that every girl on the tour has been Hot, and that our town was no exception. So he calls out the two local "Poontang Tribe Girls" and has them go topless just for our amusemnt. Personally I agreed with him. I thought those girls (and the ones that were part to the stage show) were cute, mosty becase they were my type. Ladies that could easily pass for Suicide Girls.
After a few Full Moon trailers, a funny story by Charles about how Gary Busey is crazy, and a brief moment with Robin Sydney on stage, we get to the next highlight of the night (for me anyways), the Puppet Master Prop Replica Auction. From the start I had my eye on two of the dolls, Torch and Blade. I had a craving for both, but I knew not to bid over what they go for retail. Of the two I wanted, Torch was first up. The bidding for all the puppets started at $50 and when the bidding got over $100. Charles would sweeten the deal by throwing in either the "Puppet Master" DVD box set or the "Full Moon Archive" Box set. In the end it was down to me and some dude. But he gave up and I won the Torch replica and the "Puppet Master" DVD box set at $170. Which I was total happy with because the Doll alone retails for $200. A few Dolls later Blade went up for auction and as you can imagine, just about everyone in the theater threw out a bid. He quickly went over the retail price and my chance to take him home with me went out the window.
After the auction came the raffle. Charles had the Poontang Girls draw three winners. Those folks won $120 worth of merch. On the back of the winners cards, the words that were printed would be the made into the title of the "stage show" that Charles would direct. Those words were "Pussy Head", "Zombies", and Cheerleaders". The final title would be "Pussyhead Zombie Lesbian Cheerleaders". The lesbian part was thrown in by the audience. So rather than writing down a long description of the show, just watch the video below. It's acted out by members of the audience with a bit of silly drunkenness, a touch of horror, some light comedy, and just a bit of boobage.
I will finish this story with this special side note. For those fans who came out to the shows and spent at least $120 on merchandise, they would receive an Executive Producer Screen Credit on the next Full Moon DVD Movie. Well since it was 50% off everything that night, you now only had to spend $60 to get the Screen Credit. But for those who did spend the original amount, you now got 2 Credits for the movie. That night I spent enough to get the 2 Screen Credits, so I used one for me and the other for my little baby nice Russia. She is not even a year old and she already has an onscreen Executive Producer Credit.
So this Halloween, be on the lookout for the Lopez/Zink Co-Executive produced horror film: "Gingerdead Man 3: Roller Boogieman".
And finally, the Puppet and DVDs I won that night.
