What do you do when you get a crush on someone?

In the beginning, If I'm not necessarily attracted to her right away I'll get to know the girl and befriend her no problem. But after awhile when I start crushing on a them (or if I like her from the start),  I'll mumble my words, talk in a higher voice, and completely ignore her. I know, thats pretty sad.
