Dexter

I can now say that I have completed my marathon of the first two seasons of the show "Dexter". The verdict? A very big AWESOME!!! I am anxiously awaiting the release of Season 3 on DVD next month. I must admit, I figured that this show was just another CSI type show with a gimmick of the main character being a Serial Killer, so I didn't really pay any attention to this show when it started. But thanks to JJ (my brothers girl, who also got me into Death Note and Flight of the Conchords), she got lent me her Dexter 1&2 Season DVDs to watch. I hate to admit this, but she gave them to me back in January and I didn't actually start watching until June. Yes, it took me that long (for one reason or another) to finally sit down and watch them.

And two weeks later, I am now a Dexter fanatic. For two reasons. First off, I think I found a modern character that I can relate to in Dexter. No, not the thirst for Killing,(well at least not the living, in my spare time I do enjoy blowing up a Zombie or two) but having to wear that mask of Normalcy. Being emotionally detached from the world, a lot of times I have to put on a phony smile to look happy when I'm not, put on a frown to look sad when I'm not, and make pointless chit-chat to folks I normally wouldn't talk to just to fit in. I can assure you, I'm quite normal*, I'm just not that much of a social creature, most folks find us type odd.

Anyways, the second reason I like the show, well it's the show itself.  Basically the show is about Dexter Morgan, a Blood Splatter Expert for the Miami PD. He also happens to be a Serial Killer who targets criminals and killers who manage to get by the Justice System. And as simple as the Plot is, the actual show itself is wonderfully complex. And by that I don't mean it's hard to follow, I mean each episode is well written, there is great character stories/developments from the ensemble cast, the overall story arch starts one way, turns another, keeps you guessing on what will happen next, and by the end of every episode, you always salivate for the next one to begin. I highly recommend this show to anyone who has a taste for the darker dramas, like Se7en or Death Note.

*what is normal? the meaning varies from person to person.
